IPSY April 2015

This IPSY review is going to be the last for quite some time as I have cancelled my IPSY subscription. There was nothing wrong with the subscription, in fact I loved it! However, I found with school and everything else going on the samples just started piling up. I want to get a chance to actually try products and re-purchase the ones I love, rather than feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of products I haven’t tried yet. So here is my review of the IPSY April 2015 bag. Enjoy!

April IPSY 2015

The theme for the bag this month was bohemian beautiful. The bag is a really cool woven texture with rainbow colours woven into the pattern. The inside is beautifully lined so nothing inside the bag will pull or tear at the woven design on the outside. I always love how high quality the bags from IPSY are.

JulieG nail polish (Damsel): This nail polish was an interesting one for me. I have heard of a lot of nail polish brands over the years, but never have I heard of JulieG before. The colour damsel looks like a bubble gum pink in the container, but it dries to more of a raspberry colour on the nails. Though this is one of the smellier perfumes I’ve tried, the colour is very opaque and I could easily get away with just one coat on my nails. I haven’t tested the longevity of the polish yet, but I’m hoping it lasts because it is a gorgeous colour.

Hey Honey Good Morning Serum: To start, this serum looks really weird out of the tube. It’s a bright yellow colour and has a sweet smell to it. I was not expecting much from this serum because a lot of serums tend to dry my face out. However, this serum is super moisturizing. It’s almost like a lotion to the point where I don’t really feel a need to put on a moisturizer at all. However, I might be a little sensitive to some of the ingredients in it because it has started to tingle a little when I put it on (it didn’t do that when I first tried it).

Aromachology Sophisticated and Sensual eau de parfum: This perfume smells awesome. It’s a very bright floral-citrusy scent, and doesn’t have that musky scent that I tend to associate with sophisticated perfumes. I think the floral is lily or maybe magnolia (just checked, it’s both), but it makes me think of warm summer days with the flowers blooming on the trees. I absolutely love this perfume and it comes in a rollerball which is super handy for travel.

Starlooks lipgloss (Cuddle): I wasn’t so sure about this lipgloss when I saw the package. The colour looked to have a brownish tint to it so I wasn’t sure how it would look on my lips. It’s a very sheer, shimmery wash of colour that doesn’t look odd at all when on. It also smells a lot like vanilla cake batter (yay for finally getting a lipgloss that doesn’t smell like paint). The formula is a little sticky, but other than that I have no complaints about it.

theBalm eyeshadow (Fit): I have previously heard of the brand theBalm before, but I had never tried any of their products before. The eyeshadow in the colour fit is a shimmery bronze/copper mix. The formulation is really smooth with little fallout. It’s not only a lovely colour, it’s also very pigmented. I’m very impressed with this eyeshadow because the colour is slightly different from anything I currently own, and the brand overall seems to be a great quality.

November IPSY 2014: First Impressions

My IPSY bag for this month came about two weeks ago. Since I haven’t had the time to meticulously go through my IPSY bag and try all the products, I thought I would give my first impressions on the products and the bag this month.

I’m a bit on the fence about the bag itself. Though it’s very glittery, I thought it wouldn’t be an issue since the glitter seemed to be incased in the plastic coating rather than just glued to the fabric. However, every time I pick it up my hands are covered in glitter. Not exactly ideal for daily use.

be Delectable from Cake Beauty (Lemon & Cream): I was really excited to see this in my bag. I have heavy cream from Cake Beauty and it smells amazing (like vanilla cake batter). The lotion I got in my bag smells like lemon cake, which is awesome and also reminds me of my wedding cake.

clariSEA Instant Glow Powder Exfoliant: This product isn’t something that I would normally pick up. It’s basically salt crystals that you add to your normal face wash to turn it into an exfoliating wash. I’m a bit apprehensive about this just because I have really sensitive skin, but I could probably use it as a body exfoliant if its too intense for my face.

J. Cat Beauty Wonder Lip Paint (Mad Splatter): First I want to start with how much I love this colour. It’s a berry duo-chrome with a blue undertone (yay for extra white teeth). I probably never would have picked this product up because its one of those stains where you need to use a brush since it has no easy way of otherwise applying it. I probably will need to get a lipliner to use this product since it’s very liquidy and will probably bleed around the edges otherwise.

Starlooks Gem Eye Pencil  (Ultra Olive): Now this is not a colour I ever would have picked out. The gold-olive colour was a bit off-putting at first, but it actually looks surprisingly nice with blue eyes. The pencil is very soft and applies smoothly without skipping. I haven’t really formed any other opinions on this product yet.

TEMPTU S/B Highlighter (Pink Pearl): I’m not really sure how I feel about this product yet. It’s a very subdued liquid highlighter. I’m not sure I like the finish or the consistency of the product at the moment. I tend to stick with cream highlighters, so this might not be for me.

All-in-all it was an alright bag this month with a few nice surprises. Though the bag itself and a few of the products weren’t my taste, we’ll see what December has to offer. On a side note, IPSY sent me a replacement product after I contacted them about the one missing product last month. They were really awesome and took care of the issue right away.

October IPSY 2014

I was really questioning whether I should put up a review for this month’s IPSY. I haven’t tried all the products yet, and one of the products I won’t even be opening until later. However, there have been some stand-out products in this bag, so I thought I’d share what I’ve been loving about this month’s bag.

oct2014 all

First of all I really REALLY liked the bag that came with this month’s IPSY. Not only is it one of my favourite colours, but it has a non-porous finish which means it will be really easy to wipe down if it gets dirty or spilt on.

oct 2014 bag

Ayres Patagonia Body Butter: I’ve really been loving this body butter that I got. It has a light floral/herbal scent and absorbs into the skin really quickly. It doesn’t leave any greasy residue which is awesome. I also find it’s been keeping my skin moisturized even though it’s been dryer because of the cooler weather.

oct2014 butter

H2O+ Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment: I was a little skeptical about this treatment when I first saw it, but I’ve really enjoyed using it. When you open it there’s a blue gel inside, which really stunned me because I usually gels aren’t that moisturizing. I put this on at night before I went to bed, and when I woke up the next morning my skin was really soft. It also has a strange scent that I can’t really put my finger on what it is, but I think I’ve had a product that has smelled like this before.

oct2014 treat

Noyah Lipstick in Fall Deeply: I haven’t really tested out the lasting power of this lipstick. I tried it and it went on very smoothly, but it is quite a dark colour for my pale complexion. I would probably wear this on a fancy night out or in the evening, but it isn’t an everyday colour I would wear.

oct2014 lip

The product that I haven’t tried is the full-sized Revlon Bold Lacquer mascara. Since this is a drugstore product I didn’t really feel a draw to open it up and try it right away. I also won’t be opening it up any time in the near future because it is a full-size product and I have other mascaras open right now. I’d rather try it later without risking it drying out before I get to properly use it. I was also supposed to get some cleansing cloths with this bag, but they were missing so I’m talking with IPSY customer support to find out what happened.

Sorry this post was very late this week, I just wasn’t sure if I would review all the products or not. Next week’s post will be up on time this Sunday. Have a wonderful Halloween!!!

September IPSY 2014

It’s that time of the month again. Time for another IPSY review! I got my IPSY bag about 2 weeks ago, but I like to give the products a good test run before I give my opinion on the products. Now let’s jump right into it! ai2014 all This month’s bag theme was Street Style. The bag itself is a gorgeous metallic gunmetal colour with little studs along the top. This bag is really soft and roomy so it will definitely go to good use. Now for the products. I got five products this month ranging from haircare to lipgloss. I was a little bit unsure about some of the products, but some of them really surprised me. ai2014bag Pacifica Natural Waterproof Eye Pencil in Fringe:

This eye pencil was one of the products I was really excited to try. I really liked the colour because brown is more subtle than black, but it still makes your eyelash line look fuller. It also didn’t have any shimmer so it would work well for a natural or neutral eye look. I really liked how smoothly the eyeliner went on. Usually I find pencils to be a bit more dry so they tug on the skin, but this was not the case with the Pacifica eye pencil. The only downside was the longevity. Though this claims to be a waterproof pencil, I found it didn’t stay in place. It would be completely gone within a few hours. Though I like that this is a more natural product (which is good especially near your eyes), I don’t think I’d buy this eye pencil because it just doesn’t stay put. ai2014line Be A Bombshell Smooth Criminal Powder:

This product was a nice product to get in my bag. It’s basically a translucent powder to use overtop of makeup. I was really happy to get this in my bag because my skin has been a bit more oily as of late, so it’s nice to have a powder to use on those oily zones. I also liked that it doesn’t have any pigment, so I didn’t have to worry about it not matching my skin tone. All-in-all the product did its job. I wouldn’t say it was spectacular or anything, but it got the job done. It was a pretty standard powder which is fine by me.
ai2014pow Briogeo Don’t Dispair, Repair Conditioning Mask:

I always like getting conditioning masks because I never seem to go out and buy them for myself. I was a little iffy about this mask because the smell was a little weird (not off-putting, just strange). However, after using this hair mask my hair was so so soft. The pot is also pretty big so I can probably get about 5 or 6 uses out of it. I probably won’t go out and buy it, just because I’m weird and don’t tend to buy hair masks, but it does work amazingly well.
ai2014hair CAILYN Art Touch Tinted Lipgloss in Basic Instinct:

First of all I love the colour. I pulled this out of my bag and couldn’t get over how pretty the colour is (I even swatched it below). The colour Basic Instinct is a perfect pinky-peach colour that makes your lips look beautiful. There’s no shimmer in this lipgloss, but the colour payoff is great. The only downside is the smell/taste. Usually I’m not a stickler for these things (I mean you’re not supposed to eat lipgloss), but when you put something on your lips it shouldn’t taste horrible. This lipgloss smells like acrylic paint and kind of has the taste too. This was a major con to this product. I wish they would fix this one product flaw because I loved everything else about this product. However, I will be steering clear of this brand for that reason alone. ai2014lip LeeAnni Eco 3-in-1 Revolution Light:

When I saw this product in my bag I was quite nervous. The last time I tried a new face moisturizer I ended up having a horrible reaction that felt like my face was slowly being melted off. Naturally, I decided this time to try it on a weekend and NOT when I was about to go to school for the day. I was pleasantly surprised by this moisturizer. It smell faintly of cinnamon hearts and did not react with my skin or make my face burn. It was awesome. It’s a 3-in-1 because it claims to be a serum, toner, and moisturizer in one. I didn’t notice much of a difference from my normal plain moisturizer, but it did a good job of keeping my face soft and not dry all day. The price isn’t outrageous either ($30.00 for 4oz.), so I may purchase this in the future. ai2014moist All-in-all I felt the September IPSY 2014 bag was pretty good. There were a few let-downs, but there were a few good products too. I think I may have liked last month’s bag a bit more, but we’ll see how next month’s bag turns out.
