Review: GLAMGLOW Gift Set

For today’s blogmas I thought I would give my review on the GLAMGLOW GIFTSEXY Dazzling Hydration Set. Now, before I start I just want to let you know I am not yelling the product names at you. Their names are actually all capitalized.

GLAMGLOW

I had never tried any of the GLAMGLOW products before, but I had heard many good things about them and wanted to see what the hype was about. I got this set from Sephora and I picked this one because it comes with 2 masks, a cleanser, and an applicator brush. Since the gift set costs just slightly more than a full size mask, I thought I’d take the chance and try a few products. Since I have dry skin that sometimes breaks out I thought this set would be a good choice since it comes with a full size of the THIRSTYMUD mask and a deluxe size of the SUPERMUD cleansing mask.

THIRSTYMUD Treatment: This is probably my favourite product from the entire set. I initially thought this was a mask, but after reading the little instruction manual that came with the set I learned that it can be used as a mask but it is more like a treatment that doesn’t have to be washed off. The product itself has a really nice scent that is almost like almond or coconut, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. It was really easy to apply and it left my skin feeling really hydrated the next morning. It also didn’t react at all with my sensitive skin which is a huge bonus to me. I’m really looking forward to using this product in the upcoming winter months and I will possibly repurchase it in the future.

SUPERMUD Cleansing Mask: Now this product I was really excited to try. I sometimes have breakouts around my t-zone and I thought it would be nice to use this as a spot treatment to take care of those problem areas. The mask is kind of minty and leaves a tingling/cooling sensation as it dries. As for results, I haven’t noticed a large difference but my skin has been pretty good the past few weeks so I’ll probably get more noticeable results if I use it during a breakout time. A word of warning for people with sensitive skin, this mask is one of the more powerful cleansing masks that I’ve used. I found my skin went a little reddish for about 20 minutes after using the mask. Since I use this as a spot treatment it doesn’t bother me too much, but I wouldn’t suggest using this on your entire face if you have sensitive skin. I’m going to keep on using this product, but I’m going to keep an eye out to make sure I don’t have any more reactions to the product and I probably wouldn’t repurchase it.

Thirstycleanse Daily Hydrating Cleanser: So this was the one product I wasn’t exactly jumping to try. I find a lot of cleansers are just really harsh on my skin and leave it feeling dry and tight. However, this cleanser was a pleasant surprise. It’s a mud to foam cleanser which basically means it comes out of the pump looking and smelling exactly like the THIRSTYMUD treatment. You massage it over your dry skin and then add water to work it into a foam. The cleanser left my skin feeling soft and moisturized which is an unusual experience for me. I haven’t used it to remove makeup or anything so I can’t really say if it does an exceptional job cleansing, but it’s nice and I’ll definitely use it up.

Applicator: While the applicator looks nice and has soft bristles, I could have honestly done without it. I really never used it at all to apply the masks, and honestly it’s just another thing I’m going to have to clean if I use it with the masks. I also have yet to figure out what the little silicone triangle on the one side of it is for. It’s not really sturdy and I just don’t get it. Maybe some people really like this applicator, but it just wasn’t for me.

Overall Opinion: Overall I thought the set was a good purchase. I’ll definitely get use out of the products and it was nice to get to try a bunch of different products without having to pay the large price tag for each individual item. I can see why GLAMGLOW is so well known for their masks and I’m looking forward to using them for the next while.

*Disclaimer: All opinions are my own. I was not paid to do this blog post and all products were purchased by myself.

November IPSY 2014: First Impressions

My IPSY bag for this month came about two weeks ago. Since I haven’t had the time to meticulously go through my IPSY bag and try all the products, I thought I would give my first impressions on the products and the bag this month.

nov-overall

I’m a bit on the fence about the bag itself. Though it’s very glittery, I thought it wouldn’t be an issue since the glitter seemed to be incased in the plastic coating rather than just glued to the fabric. However, every time I pick it up my hands are covered in glitter. Not exactly ideal for daily use.

nov-bag

be Delectable from Cake Beauty (Lemon & Cream): I was really excited to see this in my bag. I have heavy cream from Cake Beauty and it smells amazing (like vanilla cake batter). The lotion I got in my bag smells like lemon cake, which is awesome and also reminds me of my wedding cake.

nov-hand

clariSEA Instant Glow Powder Exfoliant: This product isn’t something that I would normally pick up. It’s basically salt crystals that you add to your normal face wash to turn it into an exfoliating wash. I’m a bit apprehensive about this just because I have really sensitive skin, but I could probably use it as a body exfoliant if its too intense for my face.

J. Cat Beauty Wonder Lip Paint (Mad Splatter): First I want to start with how much I love this colour. It’s a berry duo-chrome with a blue undertone (yay for extra white teeth). I probably never would have picked this product up because its one of those stains where you need to use a brush since it has no easy way of otherwise applying it. I probably will need to get a lipliner to use this product since it’s very liquidy and will probably bleed around the edges otherwise.

nov-lip

Starlooks Gem Eye Pencil  (Ultra Olive): Now this is not a colour I ever would have picked out. The gold-olive colour was a bit off-putting at first, but it actually looks surprisingly nice with blue eyes. The pencil is very soft and applies smoothly without skipping. I haven’t really formed any other opinions on this product yet.

TEMPTU S/B Highlighter (Pink Pearl): I’m not really sure how I feel about this product yet. It’s a very subdued liquid highlighter. I’m not sure I like the finish or the consistency of the product at the moment. I tend to stick with cream highlighters, so this might not be for me.

All-in-all it was an alright bag this month with a few nice surprises. Though the bag itself and a few of the products weren’t my taste, we’ll see what December has to offer. On a side note, IPSY sent me a replacement product after I contacted them about the one missing product last month. They were really awesome and took care of the issue right away.

October IPSY 2014

I was really questioning whether I should put up a review for this month’s IPSY. I haven’t tried all the products yet, and one of the products I won’t even be opening until later. However, there have been some stand-out products in this bag, so I thought I’d share what I’ve been loving about this month’s bag.

oct2014 all

First of all I really REALLY liked the bag that came with this month’s IPSY. Not only is it one of my favourite colours, but it has a non-porous finish which means it will be really easy to wipe down if it gets dirty or spilt on.

oct 2014 bag

Ayres Patagonia Body Butter: I’ve really been loving this body butter that I got. It has a light floral/herbal scent and absorbs into the skin really quickly. It doesn’t leave any greasy residue which is awesome. I also find it’s been keeping my skin moisturized even though it’s been dryer because of the cooler weather.

oct2014 butter

H2O+ Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment: I was a little skeptical about this treatment when I first saw it, but I’ve really enjoyed using it. When you open it there’s a blue gel inside, which really stunned me because I usually gels aren’t that moisturizing. I put this on at night before I went to bed, and when I woke up the next morning my skin was really soft. It also has a strange scent that I can’t really put my finger on what it is, but I think I’ve had a product that has smelled like this before.

oct2014 treat

Noyah Lipstick in Fall Deeply: I haven’t really tested out the lasting power of this lipstick. I tried it and it went on very smoothly, but it is quite a dark colour for my pale complexion. I would probably wear this on a fancy night out or in the evening, but it isn’t an everyday colour I would wear.

oct2014 lip

The product that I haven’t tried is the full-sized Revlon Bold Lacquer mascara. Since this is a drugstore product I didn’t really feel a draw to open it up and try it right away. I also won’t be opening it up any time in the near future because it is a full-size product and I have other mascaras open right now. I’d rather try it later without risking it drying out before I get to properly use it. I was also supposed to get some cleansing cloths with this bag, but they were missing so I’m talking with IPSY customer support to find out what happened.

oct2014 masc

Sorry this post was very late this week, I just wasn’t sure if I would review all the products or not. Next week’s post will be up on time this Sunday. Have a wonderful Halloween!!!

September IPSY 2014

It’s that time of the month again. Time for another IPSY review! I got my IPSY bag about 2 weeks ago, but I like to give the products a good test run before I give my opinion on the products. Now let’s jump right into it! ai2014 all This month’s bag theme was Street Style. The bag itself is a gorgeous metallic gunmetal colour with little studs along the top. This bag is really soft and roomy so it will definitely go to good use. Now for the products. I got five products this month ranging from haircare to lipgloss. I was a little bit unsure about some of the products, but some of them really surprised me. ai2014bag Pacifica Natural Waterproof Eye Pencil in Fringe:

This eye pencil was one of the products I was really excited to try. I really liked the colour because brown is more subtle than black, but it still makes your eyelash line look fuller. It also didn’t have any shimmer so it would work well for a natural or neutral eye look. I really liked how smoothly the eyeliner went on. Usually I find pencils to be a bit more dry so they tug on the skin, but this was not the case with the Pacifica eye pencil. The only downside was the longevity. Though this claims to be a waterproof pencil, I found it didn’t stay in place. It would be completely gone within a few hours. Though I like that this is a more natural product (which is good especially near your eyes), I don’t think I’d buy this eye pencil because it just doesn’t stay put. ai2014line Be A Bombshell Smooth Criminal Powder:

This product was a nice product to get in my bag. It’s basically a translucent powder to use overtop of makeup. I was really happy to get this in my bag because my skin has been a bit more oily as of late, so it’s nice to have a powder to use on those oily zones. I also liked that it doesn’t have any pigment, so I didn’t have to worry about it not matching my skin tone. All-in-all the product did its job. I wouldn’t say it was spectacular or anything, but it got the job done. It was a pretty standard powder which is fine by me.
ai2014pow Briogeo Don’t Dispair, Repair Conditioning Mask:

I always like getting conditioning masks because I never seem to go out and buy them for myself. I was a little iffy about this mask because the smell was a little weird (not off-putting, just strange). However, after using this hair mask my hair was so so soft. The pot is also pretty big so I can probably get about 5 or 6 uses out of it. I probably won’t go out and buy it, just because I’m weird and don’t tend to buy hair masks, but it does work amazingly well.
ai2014hair CAILYN Art Touch Tinted Lipgloss in Basic Instinct:

First of all I love the colour. I pulled this out of my bag and couldn’t get over how pretty the colour is (I even swatched it below). The colour Basic Instinct is a perfect pinky-peach colour that makes your lips look beautiful. There’s no shimmer in this lipgloss, but the colour payoff is great. The only downside is the smell/taste. Usually I’m not a stickler for these things (I mean you’re not supposed to eat lipgloss), but when you put something on your lips it shouldn’t taste horrible. This lipgloss smells like acrylic paint and kind of has the taste too. This was a major con to this product. I wish they would fix this one product flaw because I loved everything else about this product. However, I will be steering clear of this brand for that reason alone. ai2014lip LeeAnni Eco 3-in-1 Revolution Light:

When I saw this product in my bag I was quite nervous. The last time I tried a new face moisturizer I ended up having a horrible reaction that felt like my face was slowly being melted off. Naturally, I decided this time to try it on a weekend and NOT when I was about to go to school for the day. I was pleasantly surprised by this moisturizer. It smell faintly of cinnamon hearts and did not react with my skin or make my face burn. It was awesome. It’s a 3-in-1 because it claims to be a serum, toner, and moisturizer in one. I didn’t notice much of a difference from my normal plain moisturizer, but it did a good job of keeping my face soft and not dry all day. The price isn’t outrageous either ($30.00 for 4oz.), so I may purchase this in the future. ai2014moist All-in-all I felt the September IPSY 2014 bag was pretty good. There were a few let-downs, but there were a few good products too. I think I may have liked last month’s bag a bit more, but we’ll see how next month’s bag turns out.
