Divergent: Book-to-Movie Review

I FINALLY had the chance to see the Divergent movie. I really wanted to see it in theatres, but schedules didn’t work out so I had to wait for it to come out on DVD. Since I’ve read the first two books of the series, I thought I’d give my opinions on the movie and how it compares to the book.

As a stand-alone movie, Divergent was pretty good. They had some good casting and the movie had a nice pacing. Someone who hasn’t read the book can easily enjoy the movie and not feel too out of the loop. However, I was a little annoyed that there were large chunks of information that were left out in the movie. There were also some key scenes that I felt should have been in the movie, but were left out. The changes made to the story don’t drastically change the plot, but I felt that people who haven’t read the books will miss out on some important details for the characters.

All-in-all the Divergent movie was pretty good. I probably would have loved it more if I hadn’t read the books, but it didn’t deviate enough from the book to make me hate it. I’m not sure how the second movie will turn out, but I’m willing to give it a watch when they do make it.
